Kilobit (kb or kbit) is a unit of digital information or computer storage. Although the prefix kilo- means 1000, the term kilobit have historically been used to refer to either 1000 bits or 1024 bits, dependent upon context, in the fields of computer science and information technology.
In the International System of Quantities (ISQ), the Kilobit (kb or kbit) is 1000 bits, while the kibibit (Kibit) is 1024 bits.
