Virtual ID (VID) is a temporary 16-digit random number mapped with the Aadhaar number to strengthen the privacy and security of Aadhaar number holders. An Aadhaar holder can use VID instead of Aadhaar number to avoid the need for sharing of the original Aadhaar number at the time of authentication. It is not possible to derive the Aadhaar number from VID.
