The International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV, French: Internationale pour la Protection des Obtentions Végétales) is an intergovernmental organization which was established in 1961 by the UPOV Convention. The objective of the Convention is the protection of new varieties of plants by award of an intellectual property right. UPOV is headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
