What does SMART mean?

SMART Goals are goals for the day-to-day job. SMART is a mnemonic for remembering these five characteristics: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. A SMART goal incorporates all of these criteria to help focus efforts and increase the chances of achieving the goal.

SMART goals are:
Specific – target a specific area for improvement.
Measurable – quantify, measure the progress towards the accomplishment of the goal.
Achievable – attainable and not impossible to achieve.
Realistic – within reach, results that can realistically be achieved at given available resources.
Timely – with a clearly defined target date or deadline.
