Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) is a neurosurgical procedure done on the lower spinal cord to reduce spasticity or high muscle tone caused by abnormal communication among the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. SDR corrects muscle spasticity by selectively destroys problematic nerve rootlets in the spinal cord that are sending abnormal signals to the muscles.
