Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a medical treatment that uses a photosensitizing agent and light to destroy abnormal cells in the body. The process involves the administration of a photosensitizing drug, which is absorbed by cells and activated by light of a specific wavelength. When activated, the drug produces a form of oxygen that destroys nearby cells, including cancer cells, and other abnormal cells.
PDT is often used in the treatment of certain types of cancer, as well as in the treatment of other medical conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and skin disorders.
