Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) is a fee that is levied by banks on merchants for the payment infrastructure that is provided. MDR is often a percentage of the digital transaction that a merchant pays to banks for payment processing of each transaction. This cost is often passed on to the customer. Some providers charge zero MDR charges on payments made through their payment network.
