What does IP mean?
Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) is a collection of standards for the quality of drugs that are used in India. It provides a set of guidelines for the testing and quality control of drugs.
In India, all drugs manufactured and marketed must be labeled with the mandatory non-proprietary drug name, also known as the International Non-proprietary Name (INN), followed by the suffix "I.P."
IIN identifies a pharmaceutical substance or active pharmaceutical ingredient by a unique name that is globally recognized. It ensures that the drug is easily identifiable and that the active ingredients are consistent, regardless of the manufacturer or brand name. This is intended to reduce confusion and errors in prescribing, dispensing, and administering drugs.
Note:
I.P. can be used to identify the active ingredients of medicines and drugs.
A nonproprietary name, also known as a generic name, is a unique name assigned to each active ingredient of a pharmaceutical drug.
