Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews (Latin: Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum, INRI) is a title that Pontius Pilate had written over the head of Jesus Christ on the cross. Latin was the official language of the Roman Empire. During that time it was customary to set up over the heads of persons crucified the name of the sufferer, and the crime for which they suffered. The actual inscription on the Cross was written in three languages, Latin, Greek and Aramaic.
The full form of INRI is Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum
