Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), also known as the Global War on Terror (GWOT), or the War on Terror (WoT), is an international military campaign that started after the September 11 attacks on the United States. This involving open and covert military operations, new security legislation, efforts to block the financing of terrorism etc. Many governments joined this campaign, often adopting harsh new laws, stepping up domestic policing and intelligence work.
