Extended Operations (ETOPS) or Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards (ETOPS), is a approval that permits twin-engine aircraft to fly routes which is more than 60 minutes flying time away from the nearest airport suitable for an emergency landing. ETOPS certification enables single-engine diversion time, which is sufficient for performing transatlantic routes.
Note:
There are different levels of ETOPS certification, each allowing aircraft to fly on routes that are a certain amount of single-engine flying time away from the nearest suitable airport.
Examples: ETOPS-90, ETOPS-120, ETOPS-330, ETOPS-370
The full form of ETOPS is Extended Operations
