Distance Education Council (DEC) was an organization in India responsible for the promotion and coordination of Open and Distance Learning (ODL).
DEC was established in 1991 by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and became operational in 1992. Later DEC was replaced by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB), which is a bureau of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

DEB is responsible for ensuring quality standards in ODL programs offered by universities and other institutions in India
