Die Deterioration Doubling (DDD) refers to a form of doubling where the details of the design on the coin appear doubled or blurred due to the deterioration of the die.
DDD occurs when a coin die, used for stamping designs onto blanks, deteriorates from wear and tear. This causes distortion and thickening in the design elements, creating a ghost-like "double" image around letters, numbers, or other details.
