What does ART mean?

Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) is a combination of antiretroviral drugs used for the treatment of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The medicines that treat HIV are called antiretroviral drugs.
ART is the combination of several antiretroviral medicines used to slow the rate at which HIV multiplies in the body. A combination of antiretroviral medicines is more effective than using just one medicine to treat HIV.

Note:
The drugs do not kill or cure the virus. However, when taken in combination they can prevent the growth of the virus. When the virus is slowed down, so is HIV disease.
