Alanine Transaminase (ALT) or Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT) or Alanine aminotransferase (ALAT) is an enzyme produced by the liver.
ALT is released into the blood when tissues are damaged. An ALT blood test measures the amount of the enzyme ALT in the blood.
ALT test is used to determine whether the liver is damaged or inflamed.
