Ampere (A), often shortened to amp, is the unit of electric current. It is named after Andre-Marie Ampere, a French mathematician, and physicist who is considered the father of electrodynamics.
The Ampere measures the flow of electrons per unit of time. If one Coulomb of charge flows through a wire in one second, then the current through the wire is one Ampere.
