The number “007” is the code number assigned to the British Secret Service agent James Bond, a fictional character created by Ian Fleming. In Fleming’s first Bond novel, Casino Royale, the “00” (typically read “Double O”) referred to an agent who had killed twice in fulfilling his assignments. In the third novel, “Moonraker”, the “00” designation was used to refer to an agent ‘Licensed to Kill’ in the field at his discretion to complete the mission. James Bond (007) was the 7th agent to be awarded the designation.
